10 board games for TableTop Day: Felicia Day’s team wants you to play.

Day’s multimedia company and YouTube channel Geek & Sundry have dubbed Saturday (March 30) International TableTop Day, teaming up with game stores and major publishers, including Asmodee Editions, Days of Wonder, Indie Boards & Cards, Mayfair Games and Wizards of the Coast, to host the event — a sort of worldwide gaming open house. People interested in trying new games or meeting other gamers can sign up at TableTopDay.com to attend free events at game shops or to host their own gaming event.
In the meantime, the Geek & Sundry team have provided Hero Complex readers with its top 10 board games list — five games for players coming from popular classic games, and five games for players who are already familiar with modern games. Click through the gallery above for a peek at some games you might not know about.
TableTop Day comes after the success of the “TableTop” Web series, in which Wheaton — of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “The Big Bang Theory” fame — and a table of celebrity guests play and teach board games, card games and dice games. The show, which draws hundreds of thousands of views each week, is produced by Geek & Sundry.
Hero Complex caught up with Felicia Day to talk about gaming, TableTop Day and what’s next for Geek & Sundry.

HC: How did International TableTop Day come about? What’s the goal of the event?
FD: We’ve gotten an amazing response online around our show “TableTop.” Every time we air an episode, the game we played that week gets boosted in sales by thousands of percents. Also, people share with us amazing stories about how gaming in real life with their friends and family has affected their relationships and brought joy to their lives. We wanted to create a rallying event that transcends just the show and our channel, and give the tools to our community to make the event awesome.

HC: Board games have become more popular the past five years or so. Why do you think there’s been this resurgence of interest?
FD: I think a big part of this is casual games being played on iOS and other portable devices. A lot of games we only used to play physically have been transported to devices we use every day. It makes it easy to learn new games, revisit old ones with your friends in a portable sense, so it’s an easy and natural step to take them back into real life physically.

HC: How does table-top gaming compare to video gaming? You’re well-known for your love of MMORPGs … can board games compare?
FD: I was never a huge board game player before TableTop, but the complexity of the games, the beautiful design, and the event of inviting friends over, ordering food, enjoying each others’ company in real life is a huge tangible reward in a world where we generally keep up with the people in our lives through status updates online. Video games add a whole other layer of immersion, but board games give you that personal connection.

HC: Did you grow up playing games? What was the first game you remember playing?
FD: I was definitely a big Monopoly player, I was always the bank. (And I cheated. Sorry, Mom).

HC: Was there ever a period where you weren’t into them? What game drew you back in?
FD: I lapsed a lot as a teen; video games took over my life. Several years ago someone at a sketch theater I was involved with organized a [Dungeons & Dragons] campaign. I always wanted to play D&D, so we got together every week for over 2 years to play. It was the highlight of my week for a long time.

HC: You’ve played or watched dozens of games since doing TableTop. Are there any that stand out as favorites?
FD: I am a personal fan of Ticket to Ride, Munchkin and Pandemic. I also like dice games a lot, like Zombie Dice and Elder Signs. And my favorite epic obscure game is Agricola, because I love making my farm!

HC: Can you talk a little about Geek & Sundry’s success? Why do you think so many people feel at home in this community you’ve fostered?
FD: I think our community realizes that Geek & Sundry isn’t just about making content; it’s about them enjoying our content. The videos are a vehicle for them to connect with each other. That’s the beauty of making things for the Web. It’s not about us. We remain an independent voice and our audience understands our struggles on a personal level. We strive to have a voice that represents the geek beyond the label. We are grateful for each person’s attention and support: We never take anyone for granted.

HC: What do you have coming up?
FD: I will be appearing on “Supernatural” again as Charlie, and we have amazing plans for Geek & Sundry coming up. Stay tuned!

Lauren talks character deaths with Tampa Bay Times.

Even though she hasn’t yet seen the episode, Walking Dead co-star Lauren Cohan knows all about the poignant, emotional action which floored viewers in Sunday’s episode of AMC’s zombie drama – as fan favorite and all around jerkface Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker) sacrificed himself to save his loyal brother Daryl.

“It’s shame because we’d all just begun to love the character and understand where he coming from,” said Cohan, who plays tough farmgirl-turned-zombie killer Maggie Greene on the show, which airs its third season finale Sunday. “To make this ultimate sacrifice for his brother and have everybody be wrong…It comes at a time when we could be wrong about Michonne and – big surprise! – we were wrong about Merle.”

The episode was a slow reveal, focused mostly on the band of heroic zombie apocalypse survivors led by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), anticipating an armed conflict with the show’s increasingly twisted villain, The Governor (David Morrissey).
Merle, always shown as a racist, violent thug (and once The Governor’s enforcer), spent Sunday’s episode admitting to Rick that he doesn’t know why he’s driven to make impulsive, often horrific life choices. Stuck with Rick and his people in an old prison because his brother Daryl insists on staying there, Merle first tries to give up a fellow survivor, Michonne, to The Governor, to stop an attack.
Then, he decides to try killing as many of the villain’s men as possible, getting killed in the process and turned into a zombie “walker” his own brother must put down.
It’s become a trademark of the show; just as we get to know – and care about — a sketchy character, he gets killed, deepening the audience’s shock.

“It was such a shame, even with Iron E (Singleton, who played survivor T-Dog), you had a moment of ‘Oh he’s becoming more noticed’ – not more noticed, actually — but he’s becoming a more prominent leader in the group, and then he goes,” said Cohan, an American-born, England-raised actress whose British accent flavors her words. “It’s so flipping sad…but everybody goes out as a hero.”

Cohan, who is appearing April 7 at the Tampa Bay Comic Con with fellow castmember Emily Kinney (Beth Greene), gave me a much longer interview for a later Tampa Bay Times story on that event. But she also was willing to talk a bit about the shock of losing Rooker as a castmate, and how the cast always seems to be in mourning — a bit like the characters they play.

“The thing about Rooker, even though his character is such a baddie, he’s one of the softest castmembers ever…such a little pussycat,” she said. “It’s kinda how you go through life thinking ‘Well, if I love less or don’t love as deeply, maybe it won’t hurt as much when I lose someone.’ But it kinda doesn’t work like that. You kinda just have to live life fully and…well, it’s a very difficult show to do, sometimes.”

Sunday’s episode seemed to nearly complete a season-long arc, in which Rick and The Governor started as seemingly very similar figures and now have landed in very different places. Rick embraced his humanity by deciding against giving up Michonne and pushing away visions of his dead wife, while The Governor has become more of a monster – biting off Merle’s fingers during a fight and secretly holding former lover Andrea in a torture chair at his Woodbury compound.
The eternal question which hung over the season: How much of your humanity can you retain in a world gone insane, while still keeping yourself and your family alive?
Rick’s answer seemed to be bringing an end to the “Ricktatorship,” telling his group they would make choices by majority vote in the future. Assuming the Governor finally gets his comeuppance in next Sunday’s finale, the question remains how some other characters – Michonne, Tyreese, Milton – will get folded into the family, if at all.
For now, fans are left to simmer over the poignant sight of Daryl killing his brother Merle – whom The Governor shot dead in a way to ensure he would return as a zombie “walker.”

“It’s kind of a call back to (Rick’s son) Carl having to shoot (his mother) Lori,” Cohan said. “We always go at the hand of our closest, I guess. I just (realized that) as I said it.””

Alexis Bledel, Vincent Kartheiser Engaged: 'Mad Men' Stars Confirm They're Getting Married

"Mad Men" co-stars Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser are engaged!
Pete and Beth, who came out publicly with their affair this past June, confirmed to Us Weekly that they are set to marry. "They couldn't be happier," a friend of the twosome told the magazine.
Back in June, news broke that Bledel, 31, and Kartheiser, 33, had been "dating for a few months" after they were seen kissing on a plane to Los Angeles. Bledel starred in Season 5 of "Mad Men" as Pete Campbell's friend Howard's wife, and the two had an affair that was not well received.
"Vincent proposed a few weeks ago," the couple's friend added. "She's been wearing her ring. It's huge!"
In the past, Kartheiser has been linked to actress Rachael Leigh Cook, while Bledel dated her "Gilmore Girls" co-star Milo Ventimiglia for more than three years.

"Cougar Town" продлен на пятый сезон.
